Zakat

Zakat, Almsgiving in Islam, Charity in Islam
“Establish prayer and give zakat, and whatever good you put forward for yourselves – you will find it with Allah.”
- [Bukhari]

Zakat, Almsgiving in Islam, Charity in IslamZakat ( or almsgiving) is one of the five major pillars of Islam. It is also an obligation for all of us. It states that every sane adult Muslim with wealth over a certain amount (the nisab) must pay 2.5% of their wealth as Zakat. It’s a promise that we must fulfill to help the less fortunate people. At Bismillah, we help your donated Zakat to reach the Muslim communities regardless of the boundaries and physical limitations. When you give your Zakat through us, its potential and impact multiply. Your Zakat helps us provide emergency food, shelter for refugees, Job training, Medication, and much more to needy people, according to Islamic principles.

Bismillah’s Zakat is one of the most-supported funds, and it speaks volumes about the power of this kind of charity. According to the Islamic guidelines, we collect and distribute the Zakat to communities and individuals who need it the most. The Holy Qur’an (9:60) states that there are eight categories of people who qualify to be recipients of Zakat:

  • The poor
  • The needy
  • The Zakat collectors
  • People whose hearts are to be won over
  • The captives
  • Those burdened with debt
  • In the cause of Allah (SWT)
  • The travelers

At Bismillah, we follow the practices agreed upon by most scholars. According to it, the Zakat collectors are one of the groups eligible to receive Zakat. So, Bismillah is eligible to use some percent of the donations made to Zakat-specific funds for the core work, including operational and administrative functions.
